Help Me Pick My Debut Solo Project

posted by: ShonBacon

If you read my post yesterday, you know that I’m in the process of becoming an indie publisher.  My partner and I have been discussing which book of mine to publish first.

On my laptop, I have a plethora of finished novels, so it’s been a rather daunting task.

So, I’m calling on you all to help me a bit.

I’ve narrowed down the choices to five, and I would LOVE it if you guys would read the first 1,000 words of each novel and leave a comment, telling me which excerpt intrigued you the most.

Already got one person who made a suggestion yesterday, and I didn’t even post excerpts yet, LOL  That’s a good endorsement!

Below, you will find a brief description of each novel – something you might see on the back cover, and then there will be a [read excerpt] link to read each excerpt.

I really do appreciate this!

Thanks in advance.

CHOICE #1:  Death at the Double Inkwell

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction; take the lives of mystery novelists and twins, Jovan Parham-Anderson and Cheyenne Parham, who at 32, are beautiful and talented and on their way to their sixth best-selling novel; that is, until Jovan learns her husband, Cordell Anderson, founder of Anderson Technologies, is having an affair with Alisha Stewart, his right hand at Anderson.  Before Jovan can get upset about it, Cordell is found dead in their bedroom – in the exact way the hubby in the twins’ latest novel is murdered.  Evidence mounts against Jovan and her hot-headed sister.  Despite homicide detective Ian Davenport’s insistence that the girls stay out of it, Jo and Chey are determined to clear their names…if they live. CHOICE #2:  Empty Swings

Madison Smith lost her faith a year ago today when a drunk driver killed her husband and twin daughters.  Since the tragedy, her life has dismantled.  She buries unfulfilled dreams, avoids a mother who wants her to move on and quickly, and most importantly, stops going to church.  On the anniversary of the tragedy, Madison stumbles off a bus and falls into the arms of Dr. Derek Gaines, an English professor, a man who knew her husband and who knows a bit about loss and heartache.  When her good friend Cara begs her to take a life writing course taught by Derek, the writing assignments and Derek’s growing affections force Madison to deal with the tragedy and with the rebuilding of her faith and her new life as a single woman. CHOICE #3:  La Doña Rising

Everyone in the Moretti Taylor crime family protects Ladoña Maria.  As the youngest child, she represents the purity of the family, its legitimacy in the world, and in all her 28 years, she has done her family proud as an educator, a devout Catholic, and a helper of the less fortunate.  When a rival family brutally murders her beloved brother, Ladoña’s gentle core is rocked and she quickly learns the calculating, cold heart one must have in order to exact revenge on those hated.  In taking that leap into the underbelly of her family’s business, Ladoña risks losing not only the burgeoning relationship she has with Frank Donato, a cop who might be willing to look the other way for her love, but also her family and her own life. CHOICE #4:  To Catch a Cheat

Cheater Investigator Carter Devlin, co-owner of F.A.C.E. (Finding All Cheaters Enterprises) lives by two rules:  1) all cheaters must be exposed and punished, and 2) never, ever fall in love.  Playing patsy to her mother’s numerous infidelities as a child helps Carter keep #1 in check.  Being assigned to Cheater Number 5302, Kenneth Stevenson, a man with George Clooney looks may lead Carter to break #2.  Carter finds herself falling in heat with Kenneth despite the facts that he’s a possible cheater and his wife, a vocal client during the investigation, happens to look eerily like her.  When the investigation leads Carter to believe the wife is the actual cheater, she lets her inhibitions with Kenneth go, only to learn that her best friend and F.A.C.E. co-owner Vince Clark may be in love with her.  As she battles her newfound heart over Vince and Kenneth, Carter has to keep one eye on Kenneth’s wife for as the saying goes, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. CHOICE #5:  Touched

English professor Francine Packer has a running list of issues:  she’s in a relationship with a former student, a relationship that scares her to death because it feels too much like love.  She’s jealous over her ex-husband, a fellow professor who’s dating a hot, younger scholar.  She’s facing unemployment because said hot, younger scholar is stealing her thunder.  She’s still grieving over a beloved brother who died decades ago and dealing with parents who refuse to let him go.  One constant positive in her life has been visits to church with best friend Charlotte and joining the church choir.  During one service, Francine performs a testimonial solo, and something miraculous happens:  God touches her.  The moment leaves her sprawled out on the altar – dead.  When she’s brought to, Francine must cope with her new spiritual awareness and its effect on her friends, her family, and herself. Guess who’s going into indie publishing?

posted by: ShonBacon

Yep, me.

It’s been a thought of mine for a while now – publishing my own work. Me and a partner-in-crime are hoping to publish our first project at the end of the year.

Here’s dilemma one – I have a lot of books, but have no idea which one to publish first, LOL

This is where YOU guys will come in. Between Friday and Sunday, I will post the first 1,000 words to five books, and I’m hoping that you all will read and make comments on which beginning you liked the best….based on some of your thoughts and my own, I’ll pick the book to launch our indie publishing endeavor.

Be on the look out, :-)
